Tuberose is a prominent plant in Indian culture and mythology. The flowers are used in various traditional rituals including weddings, religious ceremonies or in garlands and decorative purposes.

Owing to its pleasing fragrance, the oil extracted from the flower is often used as a perfume.

The major area under domestic flower in Tamil Nadu is with other traditional flowers like Jasmine, Crossandra and Chrysanthemum, etc. With its varying climatic conditions in the hill ranges and plain, Tamil Nadu offers good scope for the production of different varieties of flower crops.

In India, tuberose occupies a prime position in floriculture industry. Two mutants, viz. Rajat Rekha and Swarna Rekha in single flowered a double flowered tuberose.
