It is a strongly aromatic perennial plant that can grow up to 1 meter (3 feet) in height. Origin: india Extraction Method: Steam distillation of the leaves. Color: It is a yellow brown Consistency: Thin Note: Top Aromatic Fragrance: Medium. It has a scent that although lemony, is softer than actual lemon, and is considered to be a rounded lemon citrus scent. There are also other wood tones that are quite subtle.  Common Applications: It is used as a stimulant, insecticide, deodorant, antiseptic, parasitic and a tonic. It is usually associated with its insecticide and insect repellent properties. There are many commercial insect repellent products that contain Citronella Ceylon. It is usually used in combination with Cedarwood in order to create a pleasant smelling insect repellent that is also natural. It is also used in candles, soaps and in massage applications. This particular oil can help to alleviate minor infections but is more known for its ability to combat the flu and colds. Citronella is also effective for excessive perspiration and to condition oily hair and skin.

Absolutes are also natural essences. They are usually essences of flowers which are too delicate to be extracted by steam distillation. Absolutes have the fragrance which resembles the essence of the flower more closely than the essential oil since some components of the essential oil are artefacts of the extraction process.

The preparation of the absolute is a two stage process. Stage one involves extraction of the plant material using pure hexane. This produces a thick oily, way fragrant product called a ‘Concrete’. The Concrete is then mixed with Ethanol and after thorough mixing it is filtered to remove the insoluble waxes. The ethanol is removed from the essence by distillation under reduced pressure. The essence left behind is called an Absolute.

Pale-yellow - yellowish-brown liquid, contains 7-15% aldehyde and 55-65% total alcohol. 

Characteristic citronellal-like smell, a well rounded lemon citrus scent . The main constitutents include geraniol (18-20%), citronellol (6.4-8.4%), citronellal (5-15%), geranyl acetate (2%), limonene (9-11%), and methyl isoeugenol (7.2-11.3%) .
